The Steam Frame is an iPad you won't drop on your face

Valve have announced their latest VR headest and what appeals to me most is using it in bed while looking up at the ceiling. If you've tried that with an iPad, you know the risks!

Have you ever dropped an iPad on your face?

I used to follow a Twitter account that reposted all mentions of "I dropped my iPad on my face" and having done so myself, I could empathise with the MILLIONS* of people who have done the same thing! (* maybe)

iPad dangers Yes, I have done this.

Steam Frame: Safe for bedtime viewing

Valve's new piece of VR hardware isn't just wireless, it's a standalone device. No need for streaming from your gaming PC, or tying yourself up in a bunch of cables. In fact, it sounds more like a Steam Deck that you strap to your face.

This has many advantages for us bed-based gamers. Not only can you avoid the dangers of a 400g brick landing on your nose, but you can rest your arms by your side while you play games or, potentially, watch videos. I assume you could even roll onto your side without the screen switching between portrait and landscape modes!

Will you buy a Steam Frame?

I'm not completely sold on VR yet. I went on the Minions and Harry Potter motion simulator rides at Universal Studios Japan and had to hold back my lunch! But if I can lie in bed and play a regular game without the risk of a black eye, I'm all for it.
