Mork calling Orson. Come in, Orson.
Like Mork in the old Robin Williams comedy Mork & Mindy, I'm speaking to the void, unsure if anyone is listening. But you've got to start somewhere, right?
And so here it is, the fruit of my labour, a completely self-created blog, painstakingly made over 4 days with some PHP and help from ChatGPT. I present to you, JapanGamer29's blog!
Who am I?
I often ask myself this question, lol! But no, seriously, I'm an old Englishman living most of his life in Japan, playing video games when not teaching English. The "29" in my profile name comes from the Japanese "ni" (2) and "kyuu" (9), which sounds like how my name, Nick, is pronounced in Japanese.
What games do I enjoy?
I like games from a bunch of different genres, but mostly metroidvanias, sokoban block-pushing puzzles, automation games, cleaning simulators, solitaire, and visual novels. I'll make a list of recommended games soon, so if you've got an RSS reader, please subscribe so you don't miss it! In the meantime, here's a snapshot of my most played games on Steam.
My most played games on Steam as of late 2025
Why make this blog?
I like to talk, and rant, about gaming stuff, but haven't really found a good place to do it. I could message a real-life Steam friend, but I think he's sick of hearing me talk about Rustbowl Rumble. Alternatively, I could post on X or even in the Steam activity feed, but having my own blog is the best way for me to express my thoughts without imposing myself in someone's feed or message box. Also.... I frickin' hate how websites these days are full of ads and whatnot. It's such an eyesore. I'd like my website to be free of all that clutter.
Let's get blogging!
I'll be posting about the games I'm currently playing, my thoughts on topics I see raised on Reddit or in Steam discussions, and I might reach out to some indie devs for short interviews. As someone who once made a game for Steam, I'm very interested in the development and marketing process of small games.
Anyway, that's the obligatory first post done. If you're out there Orson, I hope you'll read my blog!
